Daris and Shane Arrive! Haw Par Villa and Korean BBQ

Saturday/Sunday, 10-11 March

It's officially Spring Break (or March holiday as they say here) in Singapore!  Daris (Bren's brother) and Shane are visiting from New York and the four of us are going to explore Singapore and take a trip to Bali, Indonesia!  Their flight from New York to Singapore initially had a layover in Abu Dhabi, but that flight got delayed and delayed and delayed and then eventually canceled.  Fortunately they got rescheduled on a flight NYC > London > Singapore, and finally made it here!  Bren was so excited to see his brother (and I was too) that as soon as we heard they landed, he was eagerly looking out the window in anticipation--so cute. They made it!

On Sunday morning we took them to Haw Par Villa (Bren's favorite place in Singapore that I have wrote about and posted photos from before) and the korean bbq restaurant across the street.  It is so fun having them visit!

We walked from our apartment to the MRT.  Time to get a train and then plane, from Singapore to Bali!

The first half of our trip we are spending in Ubud.  Bali is an Indonesian Island and is quite unique compared to other surrounding island.  Islam is the most adhered religion in Indonesia, with 87.2% of the Indonesian population identifying themselves as Muslim.  Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world, with approximately 225 million Muslims.  On Bali though, Balinese Hinduism (a form of monotheistic Hinduism) is practiced by the majority of the population.  Ubud is fairly centrally located on the island of Bali.  It is located among rice paddies, dense forest, and steep ravines in the central foothills of the Gianyar regency.  The Airbnb we are renting arranged for a local driver to pick us up from the airport and take us to the house in Ubud.  It was a wild ride--in Bali tons of people drive scooters and the traffic patterns and driving habits are quite different than what we are used to.  We made it safely though and arrived at our jungle villa!  It is so dark and I can see tons of stars that aren't usually visible.  This is my first time being south of the equator!  Also, check out this sweet towel art...

Can't wait to see the view from the pool deck tomorrow morning!
