Haw Par Villa

13 January 2018

We got up this morning and it wasn't raining so we wanted to do something outside.  Bren and I have an on going list of places we'd like to visit and things we'd like to do while living in Singapore.  One on his list was Haw Par Villa. Haw Par Villa--formerly known as the Tiger Balm Garden--is a park that contains over 1,000 statues and 150 giant dioramas depicting scenes from Chinese mythology, folklore, legends, history, and illustrations of various aspects of Confucianism.  It was built in 1937 by a millionaire philanthropist and who started the Tiger Balm company.  The park is quite eclectic and full of Asian culture, history, philosophy and religion.

When we got off the train though it was raining again and we only had Bren's rain jacket (he was prepared, I wasn't) so we walked to a nearby store and bought a big umbrella so we could stay dry and still explore the park.  It was a cool, but definitely strange place, and right up Bren's alley :)

Dad, check out this tree ^^ I thought you would like it.

Don't let out smiles deceive you--those are bloody heads behind us.

It was a fun (wet) day, and I was excited to eat something warm and tasty on our way home.
